Lascaux Resonance Gold Gouache is a unique, highly concentrated, opaque gouache paint, with a thick, gel-like consistency that can be thinned with water, and dries to a rich, satin finish. In this Artist Review of the Month, Louise Coates shares the various surfaces she has used the gouache on and the joy of working with the sage oil-scented paint.
Artist Review of Lascaux Resonance Gold Gouache
by Louise Coates
This gouache is definitely on the higher end of gouache price-wise, but it is a case of you getting what you pay for. Given the higher price, I decided to get a colour that I could use for a variety of projects so I bought the gold.
As soon as you open it you are met by this beautiful creamy and sumptuous paint. It is rich in colour and doesn’t separate in the pot and paints. It doesn’t streak even with one coat, and the colour is deep and dries evenly. Very professional looking. The sage oil is an added bonus. It smells like Christmas when you open the jar and paint with it.
I’ve used it on watercolour paper, sketchbook paper, watercolour postcards, and also on Das Air Drying Clay. It is beautiful on all these surfaces. I just cannot fault it. I’m vegan, so of course I’m a vegan artist too and this is free from any animal ingredients. Lascaux has great ethics and a fantastic outlook on how they create their paints. An absolute joy to use.
About Louise Coates
I went to art school to study fine art 20 years ago and then onto uni to study design. After leaving, and getting a job in the charity sector, I never stopped sketching. But after my mother died at the start of the pandemic, I got my supplies out and got to work on practising and re-learning my love for art. I knew working full-time I would need a good three to four years of this practice in my spare time to hone my skills again, so I guess this would be my journey to becoming a full-time artist, hopefully.
